Religious Activities

Navy chaplains maintain contact with local leaders of other religious communities in order to meet the needs of military and civilian personnel, including international students. Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Jewish services are conducted throughout the week at the Naval Station’s Chapel of Hope as well as support and outreach to the Islamic community.

About Religious Activities

The Chapel of Hope at Naval Station Newport is nestled in a scenic corner of the base adjacent to the Naval Academy Prep School. It has been a spiritual sanctuary for thousands of sailors, officer candidates, students, DOD civilians, families, and trainees for many years.

A chaplain is available for counseling in a confidential setting and ongoing programs at the chapel include worship, Bible studies, music ministry, and spiritual growth classes.

Before 4 p.m., the office can be contacted by calling (401) 841-2234. After 4 p.m., weekends, and holidays, the duty chaplain can be contacted through the Naval Station Newport command duty officer at (401) 862-8378.
