About this Study Group
The Asia-Pacific Studies Group (APSG) serves as the focal point for information sharing related to major policy developments within the region and to U.S. policy. APSG works with the China Maritime Studies Institute and the John A. van Beuren Chair of Asia-Pacific Studies at the Naval War College to promote greater regional awareness.
The group supports initiatives such as hosting discussion round tables for visiting dignitaries, inviting guest speakers throughout the academic year, and facilitating faculty and student participation in major conferences and research activities in the Asia-Pacific region and in the United States.
Additionally, the APSG undertakes periodic interactions with other military colleges across the region and with major research organizations devoted to Asia and the Pacific.
Finally, the group contributes to the design of elective course offerings that focus both on the Asia-Pacific region and the U.S. strategy and policy towards it. These efforts enable students to gain a wider education on a broad array of courses, from basic survey courses on specific countries to more specialized and important Naval topics such as Chinese and Indian maritime development.
